Going through 500 pounds of flour a week is nothing for Strong’s Brick Oven Pizzeria.

“We’re lucky. Business has been good,” says Christian Strong, owner of Strong’s Brick Oven Pizzeria.

After nearly three years of successful pizzeria business in Newport, Strong’s Brick Oven Pizzeria owners Christian and Mindy Strong opened a second restaurant location in Hebron.

“A lot of our customers were asking for a closer location,” says Mindy.

The Hebron location opened in mid-December 2014 with seating for 65 people, a patio and a full Irish bar.

The pizza bug bit both Mindy and Christian almost 20 years ago.

“We can’t go anywhere without eating pizza,” says Mindy.

The pair originally worked for LaRosa’s, but really wanted to mix up the recipes available. From there Strong’s Brick Oven Pizzeria was born. They’ve been testing out recipes and making Old World Italian pizza with house-made dough, sauces and recipes since before they opened the Newport location in 2012.

“If we don’t do [a recipe] right, we won’t do it,” says Christian.

While the Newport location’s most popular pizza is the Pizza Alla Vodka, Hebron customers are partial to the Hot and Spicy Buffalo pizza.

“It’s a totally different group of customers,” says Christian.

The pizza specials change every once in awhile, and the customers have an input on flavor profiles.

“We want people to come up [to the counter] and talk recipes,” says Christian.

Customers can enter a recipe contest and have Strong’s try out the recipes. The recipe that wins is featured on the menu for a month or two. Mindy says the last featured recipe was a vegetarian pizza.

While pizzas come and go, the Strongs say some things will never change at Strong’s.

“We never want to get far away from our original products,” says Christian.

The menu for both Newport and Hebron are similar but one thing about the Hebron location is that the menu also has three Italian Hero sandwiches: the Strong’s Steak, Italian Hero and Meatball Hero.

“I wanted to give lunch clients something else,” says Christian.

When customers can’t make it into the restaurant, Strong’s Brick Oven Pizzeria can bring their pizza to you in two different ways: delivery and catering.

The Mobile Brick Oven brings Strong’s pizza right to corporate, wedding and social events.

“We could serve anywhere from 10 people to over 250,” says Christian.

Though there aren’t any plans to open a third location, Strong’s continues to serve high quality pizza to its customers.
